    Customizing Donations Form [1393]

    Current behavior:
Donation form fields are fixed and can not be customized

    Desired behavior:
Ability to customize donation form in the same way member application form is customizable. Custom field entries are to be saved with each donation, accessible by the administrator, possible to export.
Ability to search and filter by those custom fields, similar to Advanced search in Member database.

    Notes:
We would appreciate any input into specific examples of fields which are desirable to add to the donation form. This will help us to devise a more usable solution since directly copying member application or event registration functionality can lead to poor user experience.
Of particular interest are desirable options for donation amount (current one is a simple open-entry field)

    Re: Customizing Donations Form

    Hi Dmitry,

This is a major problem for me. When people donate often times they want to make the donation in memory of,  in honor and also send a dedication. With your current system this is impossible. For most non-profits, your basic donation page is no longer sufficient.

We should be able to customize the donation page as we do the profile pages. Again, this is a very big problem for non profits and I think this should be of highest priority to your organization.

I spent at least 6 hours trying to come up with an affordable alternative to this and it  had me looking for other alternatives to Wild Apricot just because of this reason. I do like Wild Apricot but again this is a big problem.

It would be nice to have customizable donation fields asap! Really this will be the deal breaker for me at this time. You should be able to create a donation page similar to creating profile fields in your database, with unlimited options and the ability to have open field donation amounts as well as the ability to set a pre-determined amount. This is what most other donation software organizations offer.

Keep up the excellent work Dmitry!

    Re: Customizing Donations Form

    Gabby,

    I totally get your point.

The reason we have not made the donation page customizable yet is because of our original flawed thinking, donations module ended up being an isolated island in some ways. And we are working to "join it to the mainland" but it requires big changes in the underlying architecture. Adding more functionality to donations module will make it even more difficult. So we are trying to weigh various options now.

    Thanks again for your input.

    Re: Customizing Donations Form

Thanks for your reply Demitry! I hope this is a priority for your organization. Your system is good and I think if you implement this as soon as possible, it could also prove quite lucrative for your company as I know this is something thousands of small NPOs are looking for. Yes, it does take an enourmous about of tech work on your end but this can and should be recouped within your fees and increased demand for your product. If you implement this, I would also stop the free service(to much man power and no money) and up the prices of your paid services as I know I would gladly pay an additional amount for this service as would thousands of other struggling NPOs paying thousands of dollars a year in tech support for back-end ecommerce/donation ability.

Perhaps Paypal and Authorize.net should get on this ball as well. But I do think if you could some how pull this off soon, your organization would rise to the top of this market, above the current more prominent leaders in the donation industry as well.. Memberclicks, Charity Advantage, Network for Good and so forth. I know I've tried them all. I think this one particular item would be an absolute win-win for your organization. I feel so strongly about this that if BonaSource was a publically traded company(you may be, I don't know) I would personally and heavily invest in your organization should you implement this donation ability.

Again, thank you for your reply.

    Re: Customizing Donations Form

The fields on the donation form should be able to utilize the exact same fields that have been set up for memberships.  The donation form may not need to utilize all the fields, but the administrater should have the option to any or all.

Individuals that donate or become a member should reside in the same table in the Wild Apricot database server.  Transactions - regardless of whether it is a donation or a membership - should reside in a separate table.  That way, an administrater could quickly report on the complete history of any individual.

    Re: Customizing Donations Form

    Hi

We want to be able to sell our members insignia (we are a yacht association, so pennants, ties and the like). Currently using the donations form to receive payments but it is clumsy when used for this purpose.

Needs to be fully customisable and ideally we would like the ability to have a small range of 'goods' with prices, a bit like membership levels in a way, so that we could allow members to click a radio button to define what they want, then go on to pay a prescribed amount.

Any idea about a time scale as to when the donations form might be enhanced ?

    All best

    Donate to different funds/causes

Currently users can only donate as a one-time function. But our group continually raises funds for scholarships, conference activities, and other needs. Many of our members want to be able to specify where their funds donated would be applied to. So an optional field(s) would be great to add to the donate functionality.

    thanks!

    Re: Donate to different funds/causes

I will join your post to existing thread. We are actually working on donation form customization right now and I expect it to be released in next update (~end of July).

With that you will be able to e.g. add a custom field 'Donation purpose' with a list of funds.

    Re: Customizing Donations Form [1393]

Our developers are currently working on this issue for iteration 3.1. The donation form will be customizable and also tie into the contacts system that we launched in 3.0.

If all goes well this feature released over the summer.

    Donation fields and option

Would *really* like to see the donation area more customizable. It appears this is already in the works, but am hopeful that two key features include:

    1. The ability for people to indicate where they want their donation to go. For example, we have a student scholarship, an unrestricted fund, and a charity we give to every year. It would be great if we could enter fields in the donation section, such as a series of checkboxes, that people could click and indicate to us where they want to earmark their donation

    2. The ability for us to indicate pre-set amounts *or* freely-entered amounts by the user.

    etc.

     thanks very much!

    Re: Customizing Donations Form [1393]

And a recurring/monthly donation option would be great as well. Some of our members want to be able to give a monthly amount to us, which is hard to figure out how to process.

     thanks!
