    Wild Apricot in other languages

We've designed the system to support multiple languages, so we will be monitoring user feedback to determine when to finalize and launch multilingual capabilities - and in which languages.

Re: What if I need my website in different language? Do you support that? Will it cost extra?

We do support a range of currencies for online payments - US, Canadian and Australian dollars, UK pounds, euro and a few other currencies.

    Dear Wild Apricot,

I'm helping the Swiss Sommelier association to select a web-based association management system. I'm testing your software right now (trial) and it seems to be a very good fit for our needs - the only issue is language support. The association's language is French.

If we purchase the license (managed service, 50 members growing fast) will you be able to provide french language support?

    Thanks

    Hello there,

Can you please elaborate what specific issues are criticial for you regarding french ?

Obviously, page names and page content can be in French.

Standard confirmation emails are in English but very soon we will provide ability to customize them so you can write them in French. (a few weeks away)

Built-in forms and administration functionality are only in English for now. We have it on our roadmap for Q4 this year to add localization options.

Re: What if I need my website in different language? Do you support that? Will it cost extra?

    Hi,

thanks for your very fast response - the members of the association are french speaking - so I need the page names ane contents to be in french, including the web, as well as confirmation messages.

For what regards administration I believe the admnistrator will be English speaking, so no big issue there.

Let me make you some examples:

    - home page:you have a menu on the top with different options 'dashboard, web pages,...) - the option should be written in french if the language selected for the system is french

    - Events session: show details for each event - the header is in ENglish (date, time, location) and should be French

    - Web: you have a web page called events. I can change the text in the menu to the french equivalent (aveniment) , however if I go into the event page there is a header in English (events) which I cannot edit. I'd like that header to say 'Aveniment' if the language is set to French

If you have some of this already in french language, could you allow me to upgrade my trial system with this feature? The reason is that it will be much easier for me to sell to the Sommelier Association the idea of buying your product if they see it is in French (i.e; they can understand it).

Thanks in advance - in case let's have a phone call to discuss the details (drop me an e-mail at my private adress which I provided signing in).

    Thanks and Cheers

Understood. Unfortunately there is no quick and easy (or even quick and dirty) way to show this in French - this would have to wait until we release the multi-lingual features later in the year.

I'd like to know how your plans for multi-lingual support / customization are going, since your last message about this was in March and you said that this was coming out later this year.

I would need to be able to put the whole Wild Apricot experience into Catalan for end users (club members) though the administration screens and dialogs could be in English.

Having any remnants of English in the user screens, however, would not be viable.

    Thanks.

Richard, sorry, we have postponed the localization of the system for 2008, at least until Q2. Too many other client requests for English version we have to deal with first. And initial versions will be translated by us so Catalan is probably not going to among the first languages we translate to.

We are planning to have our existing website translated so people would have the option to enter either the"english" side or "french" side.  Is it going to be possible to do this? if so when?

Also,  is it possible to have a keyword search engine so visitors can search your website?

    Thank you.

Re: What if I need my website in different language? Do you support that? Will it cost extra?

    Sharon,

The only way to do it now is to create a set of duplicate pages with French content. We plan a more robust handling of switching languages but it is currently planned for end of 2008.

Keyword search - this can be done by inserting Google search engine into you Wild Apricot site.

    Wild Apricot in other languages

    Current behavior:
While webpage content and data records can be in any language, administration interface and system labels are only available in English.

    Desired behavior:
Ability to use other languages, first of all for member and public view, ideally for the admin view as well.

    Notes:
    1) Languages under consideration:
    Spanish, French, German
    2) Once we localize the system, each new release will become longer and more expensive since we will need to review and translate new labels into each additional language.

Re: Wild Apricot in other languages

    Hello from Europe!

I would definitely like to have a "multi-language" option that would allow the user to choose from several available languages.

The languages I would need currently are English, French and German.

The "development" issue I see for the moment are the custom fields. These would have to be completed "by language", therefore your clients would have to select the languages he wants to use, which would trigger the number of "language fields" to complete for each custom field.

The initial translation cost would indeed be quite high. The following developments shouldn't be too expensive as you build on your "already translated" system, and all that needs to be translated are the new words.

    I hope this helped!

    Take care - Danielle

    French customizations

    Hi Chief,

Congratulations on the excellent application. Love it. I am extremely interested in migrating our association's database of 250+ contacts on to your system. But I won't be able to get Board approval unless I can communicate with the membership in both English and French.

At first glance it looks like I can customize the membership profile fields myself so I can add French for that myself.

But according to your support team, I wouldn't be able to customize the renewal notices or the event invitations.

If you could add the ability for me to customize the standard renewal notice before it goes out, I think this might address the bare minimum requirements of my Board so I could migrate now and wait for further language options later down the road. Even the event registrations could wait but I suspect that you would be able to use whatever change you made to the renewal notice to apply to the event notice so I could customize that as well.

We are a national association with a lot of partners operating in both official languages. I think our peers would be highly interested in your application, but they would face the same constraint as I'm experiencing currently.

     Best,

    Helen

    Re: French customizations

    Helen,

You are right - event invitations are not currently customizable. It is on our list though - http://community.wildapricot.com/6774/ShowThread.aspx#6774 - and I will record your vote to bump it up in our queue.

Renewal notices are customizable now. Go to Settings / Membership levels / click into any level / on  Renewal policy tab you will see links to customize all the renewal emails. or have I misunderstood your comment?

We do plan to support other languages in the future - starting with Spanish and French - but for the moment we have many requests from our English speaking user base we have to attend to, I hope you understand.

Re: Wild Apricot in other languages

This multiple language support in one site is very important for us.  We are an international organization that operates mostly in English but we have a lot of members in Spanish, French, and German-speaking countries.  We are implementing our WA site now, and will have to invest in workarounds to the extent that this is not available.  What is the realistic time frame for your implementation, and what features of multi-lingual support will be first?

     Thanks.

    Ken,

The way it looks now, we will not start adding multi-lingual support for at least 6-9 months - need to take care of some basic architecture changes first. Actual features will be largely determined by input we receive.

Dmitry, we have just completed a multi-language project for the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry; see WA site here -  http://cagp.roundtablelive.org/

I hope that this site development will demonstrate the flexibility that the WA system affords its users.  Also, hope it helps answer some questions for those WA users who are seeking out multi-language solutions.

    Re: French customizations

    Hi there Chief,

We are in the evaluation process of WildApricot, very nice indeed... one of the decision points of the "board" is the multilingual capability. Or, in this case English - French.

This seems to be, so far, the only "issue" remining for a go-no go decision.

I do appreciate if you have updates on the matter.

    Saludos,
