YES!  This is an extremely important feature that we will need for our new member site.  I have yet to upgrade to a paid level, since we don't have all the details of the site done yet, but until I see that this feature is available, I guess I will hold off.  Member privacy is imperative for our site!

Thanks, "esl".  Your idea is exactly what we need for our member site too.  I really hope Wild Apricot gets it together and adds this function right away.  Thanks!

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

I didn't find this post until after I made a similiar request on http://community.wildapricot.com/thread/10820.aspx

Wouldn't it be nice to have members correspond privately without revealing their personal email addresses?  I've seen this feature used on Dating Sites and thought it was a better way to protect our customers privacy.

I also voted this as an excellent idea, but I was unable to see how many votes this feature received.  Is there any news on if they'll be an update with this feature anytime soon? Everyone has good ideas on how this can be accomplished without violating our customers privacy.

    Thanks,

    Donna

Any chance this is in the works soon??  I really need this privacy feature, my members do not want their personal emails revealed, but do want to contact other members privately (like Dating Sites, Craigslist etc...)  Please, Please consider it soon.

    Thanks,

    Donna

Have you set this request for the next roll-out yet?  I've been going through the wishlist and it seems this request has been made several different times, but asked in different ways.  Please let me know when you plan to roll this out, I really need this feature.

    Thanks,

    Donna

Sorry, it did not make it to the next release - and I can not say if it will be placed into the one after that.

I totally understand your need - but we have to balance this against many other work items in our queue and other long outstanding client requests.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

    Hi Chief,

We totally understand that you have some other work items to balance. However, this feature is so critical for membership-based organization or business. And it is a common best practice in the membership-based website design and development. Here we've found many people have requested this feature. There are more other people out there haven't realized this important issue. When WA prioritize the to-do list, please consider all these factors.

One more point besides many other reasons we've mentioned in this thread,  a website with this feature look more professional.

Hope WA can put this request on the to-do list ASAP.

Hope more people add their comments here and vote for this feature.

    Thanks.

We absolutely understand the need - and this feature has quite high priority on our list - though we still have to balance it with a few hundred other requests. Please be patient with us - we are moving ahead as quickly as we can.

    Dmitry-

I'm just adding my vote to get this done sooner rather than later.  I understand your team has a lot to do but it is essential for our membership for someone to email them without knowing their address after seeing their work experience.

I agree that this is an important feature as many organizations do not want their member's email addresses being data mined by spam bots or advertisers looking for a way to contact my membership.

    hi Apricot chief,

As you can see, so many people have voted this feature. Can we expect to have this feature after next release (May update)? Let's say, July?

This feature is in design stage now. Whether it will be included in our release 3.01 or would have to be scheduled for later is not clear yet. Many other worthy candidate features.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

We are so happy to know that WA is eventually starting to design this great feature, after almost one-year long waiting. We are sure this feature will give more value to WA's existing clients and thus bring more new clients to WA.

To help WA develop the feature, we would like to share our thoughts about what we are looking for from this feature:

    •  A "Contact this member" link on the member's profile page; once the visitor clicks the link, another page or pup up window will show up, asking the person to enter  the required fields such as" Your name", " Your email address" " Subject of the email", " Message" ; In addition, the peson will also have to enter a CAPTCHA number/code in order to prevent automated spam submissions.
    • Another way to realize this feature is to directly put a form right below the member's profile page,so that the visitor can enter the required info directly without further click, which will be more user-friendly.
    • After the visitor click " Send email" button, the message will be forwarded to the member's email address and a copy will be sent to our admin so that we can track the leads that our site sends to the member.

These are what we can come up at this point. Please feel free to add more thoughts.

Thanks WA for your hard work! We are looking forward to having this feature ASAP :-)

I wish we had your comment earlier... our own design went into a somewhat different direction. We will review to see if we can incorporate your suggestion.

    Hi Chief,

We thought those features/functions are what we were discussing on this thread from the very beginning. We just simply did a summary. Please do whatever you can to incorporate our suggestion for this critical and commonly-used feature.

     Thank you very much.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

    hi chief,

We saw WA newsletter and noticed that in in version 3.1 we will have the long-waiting feature "Contact form on member profile pages". What an exciting news for all of us!!

Is this feature based on what we discussed on this thread? Does it include the following function?

    • After the visitor click " Send email" button, the message will be forwarded to the member's email address and a copy will be sent to our admin so that we can track the leads that our site sends to the member.
Thanks a lot for your hard work!!

Yes, it is planned for 3.1 - though we are still finalizing the scope of release 3.1 and it might still end up being replaced by other features.

The bcc for administrators or any other kind of tracking is not included into the initial release of this.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

    First concern:

The bcc for administrators or any other kind of tracking is critical for this feature since we can track how many leads that we send to our members. That is one of the most important selling point for membership-based websites/business.

    Second concern:

There is another concern we would like to memtion:

We currently have 4 different directories. 3 of them we need to have this contract form on the member profile page since we want visitor to contact them without knowing their email address.

For one of these 4 directories, we don't want public visitors to contact them directly, therefore we don't need to have a contact form on their profile. We only want other registered members to be able to see their contact info, since members on this directories are potential clients of other directories. We create this directory as one of benefits for members on other directories.Currently what we are doing is to manually change their email setting to "Members only" whenever there is a new member sign up on this directory.

We still want to keep the current function that allow us to go to Membership setting -->  --> Member Profile Page to set the email as "Member Only" "Anybody" or "No access"

I guess what we are looking for is an option for us to enable/disable the contact form on the member's profile for any specific directory based on our business needs.

    Can it be done?

    Thanks.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

This feature is near the end of development so unfortunately no tracking or per-directory setup will be available in the initial release. Once it is out, please create a new wishlist thread for additional modifications as we will be archiving this one.

Ad Dmitry mentioned, this feature is currently in development.

Should all go well, this will be released with Iteration 3.1, which we expect will be during the summer.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

Hi Chief, we need private member contact capability as well -- we'd like our members to be contact-able without revealing their email addresses.  We have a page where each member posts content of interest to the general public (genealogy related) and they would like to be reachable by others, without revealing their addresses.

Cannot over-emphasize the importance of this feature to our group.  Its a make-it-or-break-it type function.

Love all other aspects of the product.  Very easy to use and definitely fills the need.
