Uploading documents in forum posts [5178]

Is it possible that you could correct the function of the forum and blog pages to not only allow someone to add a link, but also to add a document to the page?

What downfall is there in providing this function?

We have not done this yet for security reasons - but will make a note of your request and investigate further.

Ok, I'd like to see this ability.  I see many site that allow for it now.  I guess someone could attach a document with a virus, so I can see where it could be an issue, but I think it would be helpful to allow for it; as many times people want to attach documents and not just links.

Allow members to include pictures in forum posts

I would LOVE IT, if my Community Members could post at least 1 x photo from their computer (Max size 110 x 110 pixels, larger images resized) in their 'Forum Posts' (additional to their profile pic).. I am sure this feature would attract MORE Members to my website (and, benefit both me and Wild Apricot in the long run)!

    Thank you kindly,

    Katie

PS. This is for my members to be able to insert Real Estate Property for Sale Images.. I would love it you could do this..

let me clarify - are you asking for them to be able to post pictures into forum posts - or have (one) secondary picture in the profile that is displayed in all forum posts?

    Re: Functional Pages

We'd very much like to see this too -- we write a newsletter and each month there are several authors and editors that want to collaborate by posting and editing articles (documents) that will eventually go out in our newsletter.  We want the ability for say 3 or 4 interested members to all be able to see and work on the current drafts of particular articles.

An alternative to document posting in the forum would be a new type of functional page that would allow members - not just admins - to upload documents.

    Re: Functional Pages

We'd very much like to see this as well as for our particular usage to facilitate writing/playwriting discussions/script reviews without an upload option for our users its of very limited use to our members and they'd definitely like to see the option to at least upload a pdf or word doc at minimum.

We'd also really like to utlize this technology for our board members and various fellowship/meeting groups to be able to post minutes/discussions/agendas but don't have a way to do this currently.

     Thanks!

    Re: Functional Pages

Yes, we also really need the ability to add documents and pictures to forum posts - but it should be possible to decide whether this is allowed (or not) for the different membership levels AND groups for those on Community plans.

Is thi on the official wish-list, any ideas on time-scales...?

It's on the wishlist - but not on the roadmap yet - so for now can't tell if/when we implement this.

    Re: Functional Pages

Just adding my $0.02... my association is very interested in using our website for community-building, and plans to create forums to serve different groups, for the purposes of sharing both ideas and files. We were surprised to see that it wasn't possible to share files in forums when we started evaluating WA.

It seems that you can add docs if you are logged in as an admin.

I would also like to add my vote to have this available to all.

Our organization also would like to have this capacity. We are currently using a different forum service that allows it, but will gladly switch if this is enabled.

Our org would also find this helpful-- Sometimes members need feedback on a document that is unpublished or not available as a link on the web, and uploading the file is the only practical way to show it to other members.

    Re: Functional Pages

This issue is critical for us as well - we are currently evaluating Wild Apricot and our members would like to be able to upload and insert their business logos, or documents in a forum post. Your reply was dated last year - are you any closer to having this functionality in Wild Apricot?

Thanks - and please let me know what the prospects are.

    Re: Functional Pages

Sorry, this is still on the wishlist - so I do not know yet when we will be able to promote to the roadmap. My best guess is that this will be done by end of 2011.

    Re: Functional Pages

While the down side of adding images or documents to the forum is clear - (add a report abuse button) the feature would be a great addition - I'm hoping to move forward with my WA site but this could be a sticking point. In our current forum, you can add images but it's so hard that the average user can't do it - one of the requests for the new web site is the easy addition of images in the forum by the users.
