Restricted / Members Only settings for any page [2982]

Currently, you can create a functional page for restricted access and limit it to specific membership levels. Then underneath that you can add (child) other types of functional pages that inherit the security settings.

We would like the ability to add a functional page, like Discussion Summary or Member Directory, as a root/main page and define the restriction on that page, not by creating a child page. The problem with making it a child is the left navigation tree gets very messy and less intuitive to an end-user.

    Thanks,
    Eric

Set restricted access without using special sections pages [2982]

Hi, I would like to be able to have the restricted access main page list the Forum Summaries (like the current forum summary functional page currently functions), right now my members have go to the Restricted Access Main Page, then click on the Forum Summary page, then go to the Forums....

This is too deep and it's too much (per feedback from members)

I'd like to be able to tighten up my site, with as few pages as possible.

I really like the Forum Summary page now available, I'd like to be able to make this my main restricted access page, then members can read, get caught up and go to the forums that interest them.

Please let me know if this is an option.

It would also be great to be able to make other functional pages the Main Restricted Access Section page.

    Thanks!

Re: Functional Page: Restricted Access Section

This is not possible now - but I have noted down your points.

Re: Functional Page: Restricted Access Section

It sounds to me that we are talking about getting rid of concept of "restricted access" sections and replacing it with ability to set access restrictions on any page. Am I right?

Re: Functional Page: Restricted Access Section

I'm not opposed to restricted access sections -- logically they make sense to me -- but I'd like to be able to nest restricted access sections so that one level of users can access most parts of the section, but a selected group of users can also access some additional pages within that same section.

I think what the person above wants is to be able to set the landing page for the restricted access section to be a functional page, such as the forum summary page, instead of an ordinary content page so that when a user logs in they are taken immediately to the forum summary page.  I second that capability and expand it to apply to the main site home page (i.e., the site's default landing page) as well.  I'd like to be able to set the home page to a functional page like the event calendar or blog instead of a plain text/content page.

Re: Functional Page: Restricted Access Section

I think getting rid of the access sections and/or moving to restricted access pages individually makes way more sense.  Also, it would make more sense to make it so that we could hide certain pages from people who are logged in (ie: Why Should You Become A Member Page that is hidden to members but shown to non members)

Re: Functional Page: Restricted Access Section

I believe Dmitry is correct.  Being able to set restrictions on any page at any level is the solution.  Having to create all of these nested pages is, well, for the birds.  In my opinion this is the most cumbersome and lacking functionality in WA.  Being forced into a restricted access page upon login, having to nest pages inside of others to have restrictions, not being able to have a functional page as a restricted page at level one, and the list goes on.  Having access settings per page would make WA an amazing product.  Right now it is just acceptable in this area.

FYI - we do think this is an important usability enhancement, though our hands are still full with other stuff on the roadmap so we will keep this in the wishlist for now.

This is something to be solved in new CMS - version 5.0 in 2012

I could not agree with you more. It gets very messy and its creates a lot of confusion for my users. -
