Re: Simplify renewal process for members [5309]

Is the automatic generation and email delivery of renewal invoices (BEFORE payment is made) also in the pipeline for v4.3? To us this would be the most useful/important improvement to the renewal workflow

Ian, the scope for 4.3 has not been defined yet but frankly the chances of this are pretty low - most of our resources will be tied up with two huge chunks of work (new CMS UI and showing invoices/allowing payments from profiles) so we will likely only able to fit some really small items into 4.3

Re: Simplify renewal process for members [5309]

We also get a lot of contacts from members who are confused by the renewal process.  Similar to what others have suggested, it would help if instead of saying "You are already a member. Edit your member profile or log out if you want to use this form to add members." the first sentence could be replaced with something like "renew here" to make it more clear for members trying to renew online.

In the meantime, we've added the links and text as other have suggested to try and avoid the confusion.

Re: Simplify renewal process for members [5309]

    Dmitry,
This is becoming more & more of a problem to us - and I'm sure to many others - as we battle to keep our members year on year.
I understand that V4.3 will be taken up mainly by the new CMS but do we stand any chance of getting the renewal workflow improved soon after that i.e. early 2012?

    Ian,

We are analysing our options to handle suggestions brought up on this thread and some of them might even end up being addressed in 4.3 (fall 2011) as we release new functionality for members to view history of past invoices and payments - it touches upon some aspects mentioned here.

    Re: Duplicate members

We are planning some changes in this area in 4.3 (next release) so we will see if something needs to be done here after that.

About warning admin of duplicates (like last/first name): this is a good idea, I would advise creating a dedicated topic on this particular note.

    Re: Duplicate members

    Jim -

i cannot get your code to work.  When i add the java script into the page Raw Headers Meta Tags , nothing happens when i display the page.

when i put in the link and click on it, i get the following error message:

    Access denied

Sorry, it looks like you do not have access to the requested functionality (You might also see this message if you have been automatically logged out due to inactivity for security reasons. Log out and log in again.)

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Re: Duplicate members

It doesn't work when logged in as admin (otherwise there would be no way to edit the page). So test it as a non-admin.

    Re: View Profile / Renew

    rmillstein:
Yes, I've done that in the meantime, thank you.  But I'd still like to see it as a dedicated link so that I can use the member-only page for other things, without it being cluttered, and so that if people navigate away, they still can figure out how to renew.

I am no good at navigating around this forum, however, I'll try to tell you where you can find code by which you can change "View Profile" to "RENEW / View Profile" or whatever you prefer.  Go to General Discussion and Questions, and look for View Profile/My Account.  It is a posting by rgorga 2011/09/08.

I have used the code and it works fine.

You wrote this a long time ago, so perhaps you already have a solution.  If not, perhaps this will help.

We have made a number of changes around this in version 4.3

For example, if Membership status is lapsed or renewal date is overdue. special notification message is shown.

Re: Simplify renewal process for members [5309]

I'm moving this thread into archive as we have changed a lot since it was started and it's hard to track discussion. For any unresolved or open questions you think still exist, please create a dedicated thread (one per each idea)
