How are people tracking volunteers within their membership?

  How are people tracking volunteers within their membership? Reply Quote I've already posted over on the "wishlist" for volunteer tracking... but what I'd like to know now is, until that functionality is added - what are people doing currently? We want to be able to track what someone volunteers for - the position AND the dates of that position, so we know if it's active or not. I'd rather not add a bunch of custom fields unless I have to. We've considered using Groups, but that seems to me to be a bit clumsy - maybe I'm just not seeing it clearly enough. Any ideas from your experience would be great!
