    multi-media functions

    Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie here, just browsing the trial software to see if it fits my needs.

I'm pretty pleased with much of what I see, but I have some things I specifically need it to do and will need some help.  Just to define what I'm after, I'll give a brief description of the site I need so as to avoid confusing everyone.

I looking into starting a community site to support specific arts projects online.  The membership will be online writers, artists, graphic designers, publishers, animators, cartoonists and graphic novelists, audio books and radio shows, musicians and video productions/podcasts, whether the video is live actors or animated.

So obviously it needs to have the media features to allow the members to display their projects in all these media.

It will be built around the idea of an online community which offers donations to support projects like this, run by groups of members, supporting each other, working in collaborations and with donations to help finance projects that interest them.

    My questions are these.

How difficult is it to set up the media needed?  I can do no coding of any kind, so is this something I can do, or must I hire some help?

Can the home page be set up to show various featured groups, with their projects/collaborations?

Can the store offer digital product sales, for ebooks, ezines and audio and video file sales for members?

Generally, does the whole project sound feasible using wild apricot?  I'd appreciate the opinions of any who've been here a while and know how it all works, along with any tips to offer :)  It appears to have most of what I need, but not being an IT guy myself, I just need to be sure before spending cash on a designer, if you can help out with some advice.

    Thanks all!

    Mark.

    Hi Mark and welcome!

"Generally, does the whole project sound feasible using wild apricot? "
    - just like this, it does not sound like a good match. We cater to small organizations and clubs by offering automated membership and event management.  But again, it is all in details.

"How difficult is it to set up the media needed?  I can do no coding of any kind, so is this something I can do, or must I hire some help?"
    - hard to say without exact details but I would suggest to contact one of our partners who can help you with customization and setup and overall evaluation, see: http://www.wildapricot.com/partners/

"Can the home page be set up to show various featured groups, with their projects/collaborations?"
    - unfortunately, we do not have anything like this out of the box

"Can the store offer digital product sales, for ebooks, ezines and audio and video file sales for members? "
    - we do not have shopping cart at the moment but we do have it in our plans.

Thanks for all that advice, Denys.  I have the idea, but still floundering on how to implement it, so I agree, getting some professional help is the best idea.  I'll have a look at the links on that page and check them out.

    Cheers :)
