    PayPal Shipping and Sales Tax

We use your system because you handle even registration and donations very well. We like the database. However, we want to start selling logo products on our website.

To do that, we have to set up a shipping charge and sales tax through PayPal. When I do that, donations and event registrations get taxed and charged shipping.

If I use PayPal's buttons that are coded to not charge shipping and tax, I lose the database functions which are the reason why we use your service.

I'd love to have an option when setting up an event or donation page that would allow the administrator to decide if the event or donation should be taxed (I can't think of when someone would want to tax a donation, but it would be good to have an option in case.)

Right now we are wrapping the tax and shipping into the price which isn't optimal, but gets around the problem for the moment.

    Thanks! Denise

The proper long term solution of course is to implement sales taxes in WA - which has been on our  mind for a long time - but we had to put several other foundation pieces first. We are currently planning to work on Sales Taxes in release 4.4 (timeline is not clear but roughly a year away).

Unfortunately I can't think of any short-term simpler solution for this...

    Hi Denise,

what if you create 2 PayPal accounts:

    1) one to be used for event registrations and donations and is not set up for sales taxes
    2) another is used for selling products and has sales tax setup.

The first one you use for WA setup, while the second one you use to create payment buttons and add them into WA pages for selling your products.

    Can this work for you?

I'm not sure PayPal would allow me to set up two different accounts using the same tax ID # ... but it was a good suggestion! Thanks.
