    Hosting fees

    Hi:

I followed all instructions to change DNS settings so that now my site is working with WA as host. My previous hosting company (which is also registrar) says that I must maintain a basic hosting package with them. This does not seem right since nothing is stored on their server (it is all at WA) and I am not using them for email either. I don't understand enough about the relationship between registrar and host and who provides what service to discuss this with them. I am afraid to end the hosting arrangement with them in case this affects my site.

Can you please tell me whether I need to pay for hosting services with the registrar company as well as for hosting services with WA?

    Thanks,

    Joan

It looks to me like they are trying to take advantage of you. I would suggest transferring your domain to another registrar (e.g. GoDaddy.com) - which should be either free or very inexpensive (e.g. ~$10) and once that is done and domain is properly setup at your new registrar, you do not need your old hosting company services. Domain itself should only cost $10-$20/year.
