    Field explanations on forms [2488]

Is there a way to add just a text box with instructions onto the Registration form to provide more guidance/help to the client? I have not been able to find this but it would be a good feature to have.

    Thanks

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

The only place where you may add guidance/help is on top part of the form.
go to Web pages / click Member Application form / click on Edit settings button / enter your text.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

Maybe this has been posted somewhere else, but I can't find it (on the wishlist maybe?)

I'm having the same issue.  I would really like some way to include my own text on the event registration form... so that I can provide some basic instructions or my email address/phone number in case a user has questions (my users ALWAYS have questions and I would like a way to address their questions BEFORE they get very upset and start calling/emailing me!)

The only work around I've been able to come up with is to create a registration type with a name of NOTE and a description of Please email us at ___ if you have any questions. But this looks funny on my registration page and I've actually had users register for this registration type, which just leads to a whole other can of worms and a lot of frustration for myself and my confused user.

What particular screen(s) (in the event registration process) do you want this information to appear?

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

Ideally, it would be nice to be able to add some text to both the Event Registration: Choose registration type page and the Event Registration: Enter registration information page.  But I would still be really happy if it was only available on the Event Registration: Choose registration type page.  That way I could explain the options and provide some sort of instruction such as how to email us if they have questions, that they need to click on "next to proceed", that they have the option of purchasing additional items on the next page, etc.

Thank you, I will move this thread to wishlist forum so that we can get more feedback and prioritize it.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

We have some selections about player ratings on our application. Not everyone knows what these ratings are or which applies to them. I would love to put a "what's this?" link to clarify or offer tips for potentially confusing questions.

@GLTF - so it sounds that in your case a preferred solution would be comments/explanations which are linked and located near specific field(s) (vs a general form-level explanation)

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

I would find any way to add instructions to the particular items on forms useful -- a link, or a pop-up, or even text that went right next to the item.  I suppose there are times I we need general form-level explanations, too.

yes, we would benefit more from a way to do simple tips / comments for certain fields. A rollover modal window would be ideal.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

    Dear Chief Apricot,

We have a complicated Member Profile specific to our club's application.  We would like to have explanatory text next to or above/below several fields to explain their usage.

Another helpful item would be pop-up page, where a long explanatory description could be added.  Basically, like Terms and Conditions but without the checkbox.

This would be a great start.  All pages should give the ability to replace hard-coded labels and add our own instructions, etc.

As we analyze this and then work on a release date for it, we will be moving this back to the wishlist. Once we have a solution ready for development and a release date set, we will move this back to the roadmap.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

I also have need for instructions for a dropdown choice that directs members to a detailed explanation of the choices on our our website.  Some choices are not self-explanatory and users need guidance on which choices may or may not be applicable or even available to them.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

I too would like to be able to add helpful comments at each field.  Instructions are good, as are examples.  I'll give you some examples from my own fields.

Some of my members have professional positions that need to be entered in member fields.  I have one field named "Position in organization" and another named "Organization".  Example interesting values might be Position = "Direction of nutrition services",  Organization = "Springfield Memorial Hospital".  This seems clear enough to me, but I keep getting questions about it.

Another explanation I would like to add concerns names.  I have First name and Last name fields.  Sometimes a membership really corresponds to a husband and wife.  I would like to be able to say that in such a case the First name field should contain something like "John and Mary".  I would also like to be able to explain that the Last name field should include anything that should appear at the end of the name in a mailing list, such as "MD", "PhD", "Jr.", etc.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

Right now I have a field called:

Name I want to be called. I'd rather have that as a simple first name field with a help text saying "This is what we will address or call you" we do live calls and some people don't want their real name used. We have a filed for their full name as well.

Another field I'd like to add a popup help text to is the time of birth. Right now if they don't fill that out we have to send a followup email stating without a time of birth we can NOT pull charts for our member calls. If I could get the pop up, I wouldn't have to send the email.

    Add a simple text-only field

When users are filling out an event registration form, it is helpful when I can provide additional information to guide them to fill out or select the right registration options.  The Section Divider allows free text, but it is not appropriate for notes and instructions since it's formatted as a divider and the number of characters is limited.

I am suggesting a new "Read-only Text" field that presents in the same font as the other form fields.  The field should allow a minimum of 255 characters, or higher limit.  A field label would not be required, but available to type something like, "Please Read", "Note:", or other short text.

In a perfect world, this read-only field would use your super CMS WYSIWYG editor so images, links and formatting could be included.

I hope that other vote for this new event registration form field.

    Thanks - dseger

Adding pop-ups for instructions on applications

We would love to see a pop-up for various instructions on the application when potential members are filling the app out.  Currently they are within the application, which then shows up on the public listings.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

I also have experienced frustration with not being able to add text onto pages throughout the registration or application process. On every page in the system, there should be a way when you select "edit" to enter text at the top of the page. I also agree that having the ability to add read-only text fields within the forms is helpful for explaining certain fields that we are collecting. However Some pages need instructions on how to enter all the information on the page.

This is important to us so that our registration and application processes run as smoothly as possible, and so that our customers and members understand what they are selecting and signing up for.

Re: Text Box for adding instructions on Registration Form

We have "Description" text that can be added for any functional page - this text is shown on top of the page (you can define it using Edit settings button). Why this does not work for you?
