Look and feel enhancements with Text Art [4292]

One of the comments we hear from time to time about Wild Apricot is 'your system is great functional-wise but site look-and-feel options are too limited'

We appreciate this feedback - and the biggest difficulty we have been having is tranlsating this into specific enhancements/changes in the system.

This post is about a particular enhancement to move us further in this direction - what we refer to as 'TextArt'.

Many of you might be familiar with Microsoft Word Word Art (see http://www.google.ca/search?q=Microsoft+Word+Word+Art ) This is a way to create fancifully formatted pieces of text into your Word document.

We plan to add similar functionality to Wild Apricot.

First, we will add it to the standard editing toolbar - and formatting capabilities will be quite limited and linked up top your selected theme. As the next step, we want to enable it to be used in site menus.

The way it would work is by generating a graphic image on the fly - based on the text you enter and effects/parameters you specified - and then inserting it into your Wild Apricot site.

This is being analyzed/designed now and we would highly appreciate your input - on this particular feature as well as on other specific functions/changes you would like to see to improve WA look-and-feel customization capabilities.

I'm familiar with Dynamic Text Replacers.  They are cool.  Can be used for nice effects.  A nice-to-have addition . . .

but as a newbie to CSS, I was impressed how easy your editor is to use and how much control I had over the look/feel through it

because of the css editor, I'd still put functional ehancements over visual enhancements - things like polls/surveys/automated voting/automated nagging . . . copying pages . . . communications administrator . . . protection for uploaded docs . . .(moving up items from wishlist to roadmap) etc

This feature is currently in development.

If all goes well, we hope to release it in Iteration 3.1 which will be over the summer.
