Manually selecting recipients for email blasts [2802]

It would be nice if the application had the capability of sending emails to specific members within groups instead of the entire group.

Yes, I support this wish ! (and actually extend to member levels and/or groups)

Since my previous post I have realised that when you first filter your member list (by group, by membership level or whatever you wish), this filter is maintained when you click on the "email users" button. Sorry for this, and for not having found it earlier in this support forum.

Re: Sending email blasts to selected members

That's correct, but what if you want to email selected users from the sorted list? There is no built-in mechanism to select only the users you'd like to email without emailing a group by default or emailing a sorted list.

I agree, being able to filter an e-mail list in more detail than membership level and/or group would be great.

I also agree, being able to either delete people off the filtered list prior to emailing

    or

being able to select the members of the group to include

would be a nice feature to have.

All of these improvements would be warmly welcomed. In general, having a button to click to send otherwise automatic emails would be very helpful, e.g. donation receipts as well as event announcements.

It would be great to have a SELECT checkbox next to members names.  You just select, select, select, and then click SEND EMAIL (or any other mass action.)  Right now, it is very hard for us to send email to 5 attendees who have volunteered to help us with a given event.

What do you think of creating a group for these 5 people? Then you can select them quickly via advanced search - or use a saved search - instead of selecting them each time?

Re: Sending email blasts to selected members

That is an ok solution for volunteers -- although we have a different set of volunteers for each event and we will end up with a lot of little groups.

In the event that we want to send a one-time email to 5 people, it is a little tedious to create a group or to create a query with 5 criteria.  The SELECT checkbox would let us make quick ad hoc queries.  Thanks.

I agree. Would love to have more control and options for list selection sending emails.

Re: Sending email blasts to selected members

When we have a solution designed, we will post the details on it on this forum, and then once we are certain that it will meet everyone's needs, we will set a release date for this.

Until then, this issue will be moved to the wishlist.

    Re: Sending out event announcements

I'll add my vote to the feature to select member from search results to send emails.

I also vote for being able to manually send out emails that would or did go out manually. Good for people that signed up to the event or joined the site after the auto email went out.

Re: Sending email blasts to selected members

We are starting to use the email feature from WA more and more, and I am finding it increasingly frustrating that I cannot edit the recipient list.

The ability to sort through contacts and members first and then email that group is great as a starting point, but often there are a few people that we want to add, or one or two that we don't need to send it to.

    My suggestions are:

    1. Once the group is selected, there should be a button that says "edit recipient list" which I picture as similar to the "add bundle members" dialog box, where you can uncheck contacts from the list.

Ideally there would also be another field to add any additional contacts (i.e. I want to cc my boss or myself on an email easily, without having to make sure they are added to every single group filtering combination possible).

    2. Just like in any other email system, there should be a button that says "Send Email" or "new message" that does not require recipients to be filtered first. It would open a new message (or the window allowing you to select from drafts or previously sent emails), and have a blank recipient list. Then you can add recipients either manually, or from a button saying select recipients.

I have a group of 9 or 10 people that don't fit into any one category that I want to email  just once. There is no point in creating a group for them, and there is no way to email only them.

Event emails: deselecting people from email list when needed.

I am finding that often I want to send an email out to most but not all people registered for an event.  The search option is not always helpful in singling out the group I want to send the email to.  The way I get around it is to search by a name and then send each email out individually.  Or I add in a uniquely searchable comment in the internal notes of each of the ones I want to send and then search that word to send out one group email.  That however is time consuming especially when it is a large number.

It would be great if there was a check box option beside each registrant to check and then email all the checked participants as selecting the target group.  Allowing you to deslect people from the mailing list from time to time.

Happy to discuss if it doesn’t make sense.

Thanks. This does make sense - not a simple as a checkbox though since some people have thousands of event registrants. I will merge your post into an existing related thread.
